About 5x5 Labs

5x5 Labs (legal name: Fifth of Fifth Technology) is an independent macOS software studio. We build focused desktop utilities for people who want their Mac to feel like a Mac — fast, quiet, and out of the way.

Why we built Unclutter

We kept watching friends, family, and colleagues hit "Your startup disk is almost full" warnings on Macs that should have had hundreds of gigabytes free. Every time we looked, the missing space was sitting in places macOS doesn't surface: browser caches, Xcode derived data, leftover app support files from apps uninstalled years ago.

The existing tools either felt aggressive and adware-adjacent or were buried inside subscription bundles that cost more per year than a one-time utility should. We wanted something narrower: scan, show, clean, done. After a real-world search for a file that seemed lost reminded us how hard macOS media can be to locate, we added the same local-first discipline to recovery.

Our principles

• One-time pricing. Software you bought a year ago should still work, without re-billing you.
• Local-first. Unclutter runs entirely on your Mac. No scan data leaves your device.
• Show before doing. Every cleanup target and recovery candidate is listed by name before anything changes.
• Focused scope. Unclutter does cleanup and local lost-file search. It does not bundle antivirus, performance optimizers, VPN trials, or anything else.
